There seems to be hidden fees and taxes on everything these days; late fees, activation fees on phones, termination fees, you name it if there is a way to get you for extra money in the name of doing business, it’s out there.  But what about when you get a body piercing or tattoo?  Should you be forced to spend a ‘minimum’ amount of money to get service?  Although body art services are not taxable in the usual sense, you think you are in the clear and that all you have to do is worry about getting through a little pain or discomfort, right?  Wrong.  Thanks to nothing more than plain old human ‘greed’, many shops have gone to a ridiculous practice of extorting a base amount of money out of their customers – why, because they can!

A tattoo ‘Shop Minimum’ fee which is the least amount they want to even deal with you – a way of saying if  you don’t spend their designated ‘minimum’ amount of money, they don’t want your business.  Not only is it insulting to customers but suggesting such a thing reeks of being a rip-off!  The good news is as more and more shops open (and as many have closed of late) things are going to get to a point where such arrogance will catch up to those shops that try to gouge you in this way.  There will ALWAYS be shops that do not fleece their customers in such a way and those are the ones we strongly suggest you seek out.  You should be able to weed out the ones that charge a ‘shop minimum’ by making a few phone calls.  If you just need a body piercing a shop should waive a minimum considering it only takes a couple minutes of their time to perform.  If you have some knowledge of body piercing and decide to do it yourself at home, make sure you get a safe and sterile piercing kit that includes sterile (pouched) body jewelry – otherwise, you are risking infection, injury or worse!  We have found only one credible online company that offers safe body piercing kits with already sterilized and pouched jewelry ready to use and that is found here.  Good luck and remember, SAY NO TO SHOP MINIMUMS!
