Piercing the clitoris is considered a bit of an extreme body piercing.  The two primary types of clitoris piercings involve piercing the hood (called a Vertical Hood Piercing, of VCH), or involve piercing through the clitoris itself.  Of these (two types of clitoris piercings) the VCH is far more popular and involves less down-side that directly piercing the clitoris. The truth is, 9 out of 10 women are not anatomically built for either type of piercing considering the average sized clitoris is only the size of a pencil eraser and rests within the hood.  However, if you do have enough to work with down there, these types of piercings can definitely add to your enjoyment of sexual (and even non-sexual) activities.

The risks involved in piercing through the clitoris directly is that unless is is done by a master body piercer experienced in the procedure, it can lead to loss of sensation permanently.  To truly enjoy this type of body piercing, you must be ‘endowed’ with a clitoris that is at least 1/4 inch wide and normally protrudes (even in it’s non-excited state) beyond the hood (so as to avoid irritation from the jewelry).  Unless getting your clitoris pierced is something you absolutely feel you have to do, it is recommended (and less risky) to pierce your hood instead.
