The popularity of body jewelry and body modification have established body piercing as the fashion standard for all types of people, irregardless of class, race or gender.  If you look around, you will see body piercings worn by people all around you, sporting pierced noses, ears, navels, eyebrows, and tongues.  If there is a demographic that body art has not yet conquered completely, it’s the middle-aged and older crowd.

For people over 45, having pierced ears may be common, but other body piercings are few and far between.   The reasons for this are mainly due to lack of information on body piercing, and perceived stigmas surrounding body modification from peers.  The best way to decide if body piercing is right for you is to take everything into consideration and ask yourself if you really want to have it done.  As long as a piercing will not interfere with your daily routine and you do not have any kind of medical condition that would prevent you from safely going through with it, you should give it a try.  It’s very possible that the drawbacks you’ve imagined may not materialize.  Remember, most body piercings can be easily reversed by removing the jewelry, so it’s not like you’re making a life-long decision.  And of course, the other possibility is that you will love it and be left wondering what took you so long?
