Self Piercing Kit
Self Piercing Kit with Sterile Body Jewelry

The decision to self-pierce is becoming an increasingly popular choice.  The reasons for this vary, from wanting to save money, to being uncomfortable with strangers.  If you are an adult, it is up to you to decide whether or not you are going to pierce yourself or not.  Some areas of the body are easily accessible to self-piercing, such as the navel, nipples and many of the facial piercings.  However, there are some areas of the body that to not lend themselves to self-piercing.  These areas are the back of the neck, surface piercings of almost any kind, and many of the ear cartilage piercings.

If you choose to self-pierce, make sure you purchase a sterile self-piercing kit that includes sterilized needles, sterile forceps, and of course, sterile body jewelry.  Although there are a multitude of companies selling self piercing kits, very few actually include sterile body jewelry.  Failure to use sterile body jewelry increases your chance of infection and rejection exponentially, and is just not worth the risk.  Also, make sure the self-piercing kit you buy has aftercare instructions and how-to video instructions if you are a novice.  Ideally, it is always best to go to a professional body piercer for any body piercing.  It costs more than a self-piercing kit, but having a professional do it right is worth the money in the long run.
