What Do You Think: Cool or Fool?

01 16th, 2011 Author: justhurtabit

This photo appears a bit unbelievable at first glance.  However, at the BodyPiercingNews.com we try not to judge those of you out there that have ‘different’ ideas on body modification.  Just because it’s a bit out of the ordinary, or extreme, doesn’t mean it isn’t a serious example of self-expression, right?

It may take a few moments to suddenly become clear what kind of extreme stretching this guy did, but what is immediately apparent is that this is something that should probably be avoided, unless you have already had all the children you want to have in your life.  If you do decide to fashion your own scrotum this way, make sure you have consulted a professionally licensed body piercer and a doctor first.  If you still decide to go forward with this, make sure you have a professional body piercer start you out who uses sterile body piercing supplies and has experience with these types of piercings.  Finally, always have someone near you who is willing to ‘lend a hand’ at a moments notice for those great photo opp’s.  What do you think: Cool or Fool?

How to Know if A Body Artist is Legit

01 16th, 2011 Author: justhurtabit

The booming demand for body piercers and tattoo artists has created a shortage of licensed and permitted body art technicians.  As with any other industry that is expanding beyond it’s own means to meet the service requirements of it’s customers, the industry has attracted a large amount of people that know nothing about body piercing or tattooing, nor have they fulfilled any of the mandated requirements by law.

These wanna-be body technicians are actually hair-stylists, manicurists and other such occupations who are frustrated by slow sales in their primary businesses.  Instead of marketing themselves better or trying to improve their knowledge and capabilities in their fields, they are ‘adding’ body-piercing (or even tattoo) services to their businesses in the hopes of taking advantage of the shortage of legitimate body artists.  Of course, these ‘overnight’ body piercers and tattooists are not legit, in fact, they are endangering people that do not know enough to recognize them for what they are.  Make sure before you allow anyone to pierce or tattoo you that you have seen their recent registration and permit from the health department that oversees the county you are in.  Also ask to see that all of their tattoo and piercing supplies are sterile, and pouched in color-change packages that guarantee sterility.  If they cannot produce valid permits, licenses or refuse to show you the needles, tools and body jewelry they will be using, save yourself the infection and leave.

Cool or Fool: Proof Cyborgs Exist?

When it comes to extreme body modifications, we at the BodyPiercingNews.com are always on the lookout for cutting-edge trends to report to you.  Here’s an example of what we would call going all-out with piercings, stretchings and implants – with the end result simply incredible.  In a tour de force of surface piercings,  bifurcated tongue, dermal implants, and other combinations of standard piercings and stretching, this woman undoubtedly gets her share of shocked stares.

Although this cyborg-like effect is awe-inspiring, it can hinder one’s ability to do certain routine tasks.  If you are careful to plan your body art so that it is removable, you can ‘transform’ yourself from mundane to magnificent, and back again in time for work.  It’s wonderful to live in such a time when anyone can get a body piercing just about anywhere on their bodies safely and without persecution by society.   Just make sure you have a professional body piercer perform your body modifications and always follow the aftercare advice you are given to the letter.

The Third Eye Piercing

01 13th, 2011 Author: justhurtabit

The Third Eye Piercing is a type of surface piercing that resides on the forehead area of the face,  centered above the eyebrows.  Because of the tightness of the skin and proximity to the bone of the skull, this piercing is very likely to migrate or outright reject.

The type of body jewelry worn in this piercing can be either a barbell (shown), dermal or a captive bead ring, but can also facilitate segment rings, horseshoe barbells or curved barbells as well.  As with all surface piercings, be sure you have a properly sterilized body piercing needle from a respected company that offers piercing supplies.  The healing time is similar to other surface piercings and should come in around 8 weeks total time.

Is It Illegal To Tattoo Minors?

01 11th, 2011 Author: justhurtabit

In the state of California, it is a misdemeanor to tattoo a minor (person under the age of 18), irregardless of parental consent.  This means that under no circumstances, even if the parent is with the minor agreeing to it, can a minor receive a tattoo.  However, it is not against the law for minors to get body piercings, as long as parental consent is given either in person (during the piercing) or in writing (must be notarized).  When it comes to the law, tattooing and body piercing are very different and must be treated as such, especially in the case where a minor is involved.  Other states vary as to the laws pertaining to tattooing of minors.  Before you engage in this, or allow this as a parent, call your local health department to see what the law states in your region of the country.

In Los Angeles County, California, if your son or daughter wants a piercing, you must be with them, or give written consent for the procedure.  But when it comes to tattoos, it does not matter whether it’s okay with you (as the parent) or not, it is against the law.  Any tattoo shop (or artist) that ignores this law and is willing to tattoo your child is breaking the law, and worse, if you have signed a release form for them to do so, you are an accomplice.  In case you do not think this is a big deal think again; there have been many cases of parents prosecuted for encouraging (or forcing in some cases) their minor children to get tattooed, with many resulting in jail time.  The rule of thumb is this; if a tattoo shop is willing to break the law to make money off of you, they are probably breaking other laws (in regards to mandated sterility standards for tattoo and piercing supplies) that you aren’t aware of that could put your health and safety at risk.  Find a body artist that registered with the county health department and can provide proof of their compliance with the laws regarding body art and procedures before you allow anyone to work on you or the ones you love.

The Importance of Using Sterile Body Piercing Kits

Sterile Body Piercing Kit

If you are trying to find the proper tools, body jewelry and skin preparation materials to do a body piercing, you need to find an appropriate body piercing kit for the job.  The best type of body piercing kit is going to include the type of body jewelry, needle and forceps in the sizes and styles for the type of piercing you want to do.

The single most important thing to keep in mind when buying a body piercing kit is to find a kit that includes pre-sterilized body jewelry.  Most kits offered include sterile piercing needles (these are usually sterilized at the factory) and alcohol swabs or pads (benzalkonium chloride towelettes actually work better than alcohol to disinfect the skin area), but it can be difficult to find body piercing kits that include sterile body jewelry.  Make sure the kit you purchase clearly states the body jewelry is sterilized already and in sterile color-changing pouches ready for use.  If the body jewelry in the kit does not say ‘sterile body jewelry’, you can bet it is not.  Finding the right body piercing kits to pierce with can mean the difference between a successful piercing, and a terrible infection.

Cool or Fool: Man of Stone?

Stone Man

In our never-ending quest to inform, entertain, and whenever possible, enlighten, we constantly stumble upon individuals that defy description.  It’s not that we’re judging (we let you do that), it’s just sometimes there are things that defy words.  This photo is a case in point; a man that seems to be trying to imitate a stone.

It may be from many years of tattooing his skin with dark inks, or it may be body paint, but the finished result indeed appears to be a man made of stone.  Of course, he has body piercings, some of which are stretching his ear lobes considerably, as well as pierced nipples, yet for once, these features seem incidental to the overall effect of this man’s creation.  In case you are thinking about following this man in his stone-steps, make certain that you are prepared to shock those around you into silence.  You can also forget about ‘fitting in anywhere (unless you are trying to ‘fit into’ a mountain).  Lastly, if you pierce and stretch you skin, make sure your piercer is using sterile body piercing supplies and that you have carefully thought it through before taking the plunge into a life of solidity.

Body Mods: Not Just for Young People Anymore…

In a tribute to those of you out there that are sometimes embarassed by your parent’s attempts to be cool, here’s a photo of somebody’s grandfather sporting more than a few body modifications.  Either this is real, or one of the best examples of photo-shop skill we’ve ever seen!  It just goes to show you what can happen when somebody has a bit too much time on their hands…

For the sake of this article, we’re assuming this is real.  Although having this many body modifications performed at such a late age can be tough on the skin, it is not as bad as it looks.  As long as the man or woman does not have any circulatory problems, or immune system issues that could interfere with healing, it should be okay to stretch away the skin they may not be inhabiting much longer.  Just make sure you go to a certified body piercer to get it done, who uses all sterile body piercing supplies.  It just goes to show you that you’re never too old to learn a new trick, or try something new!

The Chin Piercing

Chin Piercing

A Chin Piercing is a type of surface piercing that unlike labret piercings, does not pass through the mouth.  This distinction is important, as there seems to be much confusion on the subject.  A lower labret passes through the mouth (near the jaw-bone) and can appear similar, but only a true chin-piercing will begin and end outside the mouth as a surface piercing on the face.

This type of body piercing is usually done with a ten to fourteen gauge sized needle.  As with other surface piercings, the chin piercing requires an experienced body piercer utilizing the proper tools and sterile piercing supplies.  The type of body jewelry worn can be either barbells, captives, or talons for extreme appearance.  Healing times are similar to other surface piercings.

Beware of part-time body piercers

01 5th, 2011 Author: justhurtabit

With the growing demand for tattoos and body piercing across the nation, there are more and more people offering body art services that are not licensed and do not have the knowledge to properly do the job.  These people may be manicurists, hair-stylists or masseuses  who have decided to offer body piercing to bring in extra money. The problem is that unless someone has gone through the proper training, classes and have been issued a permit from their local health department, what they are doing is illegal, and dangerous.

Before you allow anyone to pierce or tattoo your body, make sure you know they are permitted to do so by both the state, county and city they operate in.  Beware of piercers that work out of establishments that have nothing to do with body piercing, such as beauty shops, nail salons, or other non-related industries.  It is your right as a customer to demand to see the piercer’s registered body technician permit (it should have a number printed on it for confirmation with the county health department) and also make sure you see (beforehand) that all needles, tools, body jewelry and other tattoo and body piercing supplies used sterile and sealed in color-changing autoclave pouches.  Don’t be afraid to speak up and demand to know the truth, your life may depend upon it!
