The Third Eye Piercing is a surface piercing positioned just above the bridge of the nose and centered on the forehead, either level to or just above the eyebrows. The Third Eye piercing can be performed as either a surface piercing or a dermal implant. This type of surface piercing has a high rejection and/or migration rate and takes generally about 8 weeks to heal.
The needle/jewelry gauge used can be 14g, 16g or 18g, with the smaller gauges carrying less risk of rejection. Once healed, the body jewelry of choice for this type of body piercing is either a dermal head (if a micro-dermal implant was used) or a captive bead ring (or curved barbell) if this piercing was achieved as a standard surface piercing.
